PACKERS QB BRETT FAVRE PRESENTS DONATIONS TO TWO CHARITIES

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre today presented donations from the Brett Favre Forward Foundation to two charities benefiting Wisconsin youth.

The donations, representing a total of $50,000, went to the STARBRIGHT Foundation, a Los Angles-based organization working on a project at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the Young Artist Workshops, a summer arts program at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis.

"One of the things I've enjoyed doing over the past several years is getting involved with wonderful charities like these," Favre said. "The Foundation has received tremendous support from the community and with that support we've been able to contribute to great organizations – like these two today – that are doing wonderful things for children of need here in Wisconsin.

"It's been a privilege to be able to help out these charities and Deanna and I look forward to our continued involvement with these worthwhile causes."

The STARBRIGHT Foundation, which received a $40,000 donation, is in the process of developing it's signature program, STARBRIGHT World, at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. STARBRIGHT World, currently available at more than 80 hospitals in North America, is a private, broadband computer network that creates an online community of hospitalized children across the country and enables them to connect with one another. Young people can communicate with their peers using Chat, email, Video Conferencing and instant messaging technology. By using STARBRIGHT World, seriously ill children are involved in an active and lively community that can help distract them from a painful procedure or turn what was an afternoon of loneliness into hours of friendship building.

The Young Artist Workshops, which received at $10,000 donation, is a three-week summer arts enrichment program at St. Norbert College for youth with disabilities. Founded in 1985 by Charles Peterson, professor of art at St. Norbert College, YAW began with 20 children with orthopedic or communication disorders. It has since grown to serve almost 200 young people each summer. Through arts activities, participants can reduce stress associated with their disabilities and build self-esteem through successful experiences. It also has become a training site for teachers pursuing additional certification in adaptive education.

The mission of the Brett Favre Forward Foundation is to provide aid to disadvantaged or disabled children who reside in Wisconsin or Mississippi. Started in 1996, the Foundation has donated in excess of $700,000 to charities in the two states.
