TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QB SHAUN KING TO ACCOMPANY STUDENTS ON
"KING’S DREAM" EDUCATIONAL TRIP

WHO: Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Shaun King

WHAT:
As a finale to "King’s Dream," an education-based program that focuses on teaching middle school students about civil rights, Buccaneers QB Shaun King will accompany 20 students from Academy Prep Center for Education on a five-day tour of the southern United States. The group will travel through the South from April 7 - 11 and will visit Atlanta, Montgomery and Birmingham.

Since October of 2000, Academy Prep students have attended King’s Dream classes, where they have performed various research and writing assignments on topics such as the United States Civil Rights Movement, colonialism, slavery and the Civil War. The students have also learned about civil rights struggles around the world, discussing the Holocaust and the controversies in such areas as Bosnia, Kosovo, and Northern Ireland.

A committee composed of the Head Master, director of marketing and development and various teachers from Academy Prep, and members of the local chapter of the National Conference for Community and Justice, taught the King’s Dream lessons. Students were required to complete their assignments, demonstrate good behavior and maintain their grades in school in order to take the trip with King.

During the trip, students will visit the sites they studied in King’s Dream classes including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historical District, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Civil Rights Memorial and the Rosa Parks Museum.
