LIONS HOST ALUMNI AT SATURDAY’S MINI-CAMP PRACTICE; ALUMNI WILL TOUR NEW FACILITY AND MEET THE 2002 LIONS

ALLEN PARK, MICH. -- Head coach Marty Mornhinweg and the 2002 Detroit Lions will host Lions’ Alumni, Saturday (April 27), as part of the weekend’s mini-camp activities. Approximately 30 former Lions are expected to be the club’s guests during the Saturday morning practice at the team’s new headquarters and practice facility in Allen Park.

The invitation to the Alumni has a three-fold purpose. The former Lions will meet the 2002 Lions, watch practice, and get their first opportunity to tour the new state-of-the-art facility.

Among those expected to attend are Pro Football Hall of Famer Lem Barney, Lions’ Alumni presidents James Hunter and Tom Nowatzke. Other former Lions scheduled to attend are Luther Blue, Luther Bradley, Dexter Bussey, Ken Callicutt, Gus Cifelli, Ken Dallafior, Jimmy David, Dorne Dibble, Tony Furst, Gene Hamlin, Maurice Harvey, Eric Hipple, Horace King, Dan Lewis, Gary Lowe, Bob Momsen, John Panelli, Rudy Redmond, Perry Richards, Freddie Scott, Bobby Thompson, Jim Thrower, Tommy Watkins, Sam Williams, former assistant coach Aldo Forte, and former head coach Monte Clark. Joining them will be three Lions’ Alumni who are on the team’s staff --- Director of Pro Personnel Sheldon White, Director of Pro Scouting Russ Bolinger, and Assistant Director of Pro Personnel Charlie Sanders.

Saturday’s event is one of several activities planned this year for former Lions’ players. Coach Mornhinweg will again host Alumni Honorary Captains at each regular-season game --- home and on the road --- this season. The annual Lions’ Alumni Day will be September 29 when the Lions host the New Orleans Saints at new Ford Field. Also, Ford Field will house a Lions’ Alumni Room, a special gathering spot exclusively for Alumni and their guests.
