Detroit Lions New Facility Information

The Detroit Lions have completed their relocation process and are now operating out of the team’s new headquarters and training facility, which is located in Allen Park, Mich.

Media traveling to Detroit to cover the Lions during training camp and during the week will actually have more positive things to say about us since we are located just 10-15 minutes East of Detroit Metro Airport!!! A much shorter and much easier commute. The Lions 2002 Training Camp will be located at the team’s practice facility this year (which means no trip to Saginaw, Mich.). Along with a new practice facility, media flying Northwest Airlines will be arriving in a brand new terminal that opened in February 2002.

Directions from the Airport: Follow signs out of airport to I-94 East. Proceed on I-94 East to Southfield Freeway (M-39) North. Proceed on Southfield Fwy North to Rotunda Drive Exit. Turn Right at top of ramp. Lions Headquarters and Training Facility will be on right. Proceed on Rotunda Drive to first stop light and take right onto Republic Drive. Enter training center and turn left to park in visitors parking lot. Enter main reception area located in front of building.

Approximate Drive time: 15 minutes.

Those making hotel accommodations for training camp or next season should consider the following areas: Romulus, Mich. (area immediately surrounding airport), Dearborn or downtown Detroit. Staying in Troy, Mich., or Pontiac will be too far. There is an Airport Marriott and a Romulus Marriott that are in the immediate proximity of DTW. I would suggest using the Romulus Marriott because the Airport Marriott is smaller and located immediately in the center of the old airport terminal.

For those interested, the media area includes:

Press Workroom: Work area for writers that includes a small kitchenette. Each Detroit Metro beat paper (News, Free Press, Booth News Service and Oakland Press) work out of double-wide work spaces in the workroom. The workroom also includes pool phones in all other workspaces. There will also be a conference table in the room. It is outfitted with two TV’s, a large and small refrigerator, and coffee maker. And a microwave is to arrive shortly. We also provide a light food (peanut butter, jam, jelly and bread) and beverage service.

Research Library: Room with Lions archives and research materials. The spacious room doubles as our media conference room for media conference call (draft and Wednesday’s calls are made here).

Press Lounge: TV, couch and chairs for relaxing.

Radio Room: Five workspaces for local radio stations to broadcast updates. Note, we have separated the writers and the radio people for a better work environment.

Copy Room

Kitchenette: Larger area for food service to be placed.

Two interview rooms

Broadcast Studio: Will be completed soon. Most press conferences will take place here and this will include an edit room, sound room and radio room for local flagship station. There are extra workspaces to accommodate other radio stations for certain events.

Auditorium: 106-seat room used for large press conferences.

All media areas are cabled for TV and Radio to set up and broadcast from within minutes.
