NFL SALUTES NEW YORK’S “FINEST” AND “BRAVEST”

 

League And Players Present $50,000 To Departments’ Survivor Funds

At Sunday’s “Fun City Bowl” at Giants Stadium

The NFL announced today that it will present $50,000 to NYPD and FDNY September 11 survivor funds prior to Sunday’s 30th Annual “Fun City Bowl.” The tackle football game pits the “Finest” (NYPD) against the “Bravest” (FDNY) at 3 p.m. at Giants Stadium in front of an expected 35,000 fans.  More than 25 members of the FDNY football team lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks.

The money will equally benefit the various funds established by both rescue departments.  The donation is part of the $10 million pledged by the NFL and its players to organizations dealing with the loss of life and needs resulting from the events of September 11.

Members of the New York Giants and the New York Jets will be on hand to greet the families of police officers and firefighters lost in those attacks.  The game that will be televised live on MSG with announcers Al Trautwig and former New York Jets Marty Lyons. Also expected to appear in the booth will be John Madden and Boomer Esiason.

Bob Tisch, co-owner of the New York Giants, will make the pregame presentation on behalf of the NFL.  Also expected to make presentations are New York Governor George Pataki, New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former Mayor Rudy Guliani and New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Tickets to the game are $15 for adults and $10 children.  Tickets may be purchased at Giants Stadium.
