FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NFL-178 1/18/05 FRANK SUPOVITZ NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF EVENTS FRANK SUPOVITZ, a 25-year veteran of the event management business, has been named the NFL’s new senior vice president of events, the NFL announced today. Supovitz, a former events executive with Radio City Music Hall Productions and, most recently, the National Hockey League, will join the NFL on Monday, January 31 and participate that week as an observer in Super Bowl XXXIX activities in Jacksonville. Supovitz replaces JIM STEEG, who resigned earlier this year and will become the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the San Diego Chargers in February following the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl. “To become part of the National Football League is an opportunity of a lifetime,” said Supovitz, who has written two textbooks on event management. “I am thrilled and look forward to the challenge. I have always operated best in a team environment and NFL events have to operate at the highest level of both teamwork and quality.” Supovitz will report to NFL Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer ROGER GOODELL and oversee all NFL events operated by the league office, including the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, NFL playoffs, NFL Draft, NFL Kickoff, American Bowls, and all league business meetings. “Frank Supovitz has a range and depth of experience that make him uniquely suited for this position,” Goodell said. “Frank will work closely with all of our departments and take our event management to the next level.” Supovitz began his professional career in events and marketing at Radio City Music Hall Productions in 1979. During his 10 years at Radio City, he managed numerous events, including serving as associate producer of the Super Bowl XXII Halftime Show in San Diego in 1988 and the Bicentennial Celebration of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia in 1987. From 1989 to 1992, Supovitz was vice president of marketing and coordinating producer of EVENTURES, a New York-based event production firm. His credits there included the 1990 Goodwill Games Welcoming Ceremonies, the U.S. Olympic Festival Opening and Closing Ceremonies in 1989 and 1990, the 100th Army-Navy Game Halftime in 1990, and the Stanford University Centennial Spectacular in 1991. Supovitz joined the NHL in 1992 as general manager of event marketing and rose to group vice president of events and entertainment. He directed the creative development, management and production of more than 150 NHL events and entertainment properties worldwide, including the NHL All-Star Weekend, NHL Awards Television Special, NHL SuperSkills tour, NHL Entry Draft, NHL International Challenge, the grand opening of the Hockey Hall of Fame, and all NHL business meetings. Supovitz is the author of “The Sports Event Management & Marketing Playbook” (John Wiley & Sons, 2004) and co-author of “Dollars & Events: How to Succeed in the Special Events Business” (John Wiley & Sons, 1999).
