Today is an exciting day for the Tennessee Titans.
Tonight, the Titans play in front of a national television audience for the first time in their new Adelphia Coliseum home when they host the Oakland Raiders (ESPN, 8:20 PM ET).
Earlier in the day, the Titans will establish another franchise first inducting the inaugural class to the "Titans Hall of Fame."
In recognition of the 40th season of the Tennessee Titans/Houston Oilers organization, team owner K.S. "BUD" ADAMS, JR. will unveil an official team hall of fame that will feature players and staff from the past, while creating a special place for Titans stars of the future to be recognized. The hall of fame will open its doors prior to the 2000 season at Adelphia Coliseum.
Adams has selected DE ELVIN BETHEA, QB GEORGE BLANDA, RB EARL CAMPBELL, Vice President/General Manager/Scout MIKE HOLOVAK, S KEN HOUSTON, G MIKE MUNCHAK, and S-P JIM NORTON as this years inaugural class.
The inductees will be honored at a media luncheon Thursday morning and will be formally inducted during halftime ceremonies of the Titans-Raiders game Thursday night. Five of the seven inductees will be on hand for the ceremonies. Campbell and Blanda are unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts.
"This is something my wife Nancy and I have wanted to do for quite some time," Adams said. "We wanted to have a permanent place where our fans could get a feel for our proud past, but also a place where our outstanding Titans players can be honored in the future."
All six players have either been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio or had their jersey number retired by the club.
