FATHER'S DAY COMES EARLY FOR DOLPHINS' MADISON & FAMILY

Cornerback Sam Madison of the Miami Dolphins doesn't need to get a Father's Day gift.   The Florida Supreme Court has already taken care of it.

On Monday, June 5, in Tallahassee, Madison's father, Sam Madison, Sr., became the first person to receive the Florida Supreme Court's chief justice commendation for heroism.

On Sept. 13, 1998, after watching his son and the Dolphins beat Buffalo, Madison, Sr., and his son saw a traffic accident outside Pro Player Stadium. A police officer was hit by a car.

Madison, Sr., 57, administered CPR while his son went for help. The two helped save the life of Miami Metro-Dade officer Rueben Jones. Madison, Sr., is a retired Monticello police officer and has worked as a security officer at the Supreme Court since 1992.

Madison, Sr., received the award from Chief Justice Major Harding.

Madison, Jr., was named the Dolphins' Most Valuable Player this week and was one of nine players to win the team's Community Service Award. Madison and the rest of the secondary from last season -- Terrell Buckley, Ray Hill, Calvin Jackson, Greg Jeffries, Brock Marion, Patrick Surtain, Jerry Wilson and Shawn Wooden -- received the award for purchasing tickets for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, a program they set up in conjunction with Prudential Securities.
