SUPER BOWL XXXIII EDITION
ITEM ONE: | PERENNIAL NO. 1 TV SHOW |
The Super Bowl XXXIII clash between the Atlanta Falcons and defending champion Denver Broncos on January 31 on FOX Sports (6:00 ET gametime) is projected to be the number one rated TV show in 1999. Two of the four highest rated shows last year were the Super Bowl XXXII game telecast of Denvers 31-24 victory over Green Bay (No. 1 with 44.5 rating) and the Super Bowl XXXII postgame show (No. 4/33.4). The latter program beat the fifth-rated Winter Olympics telecast on February 20 by more than 10 rating points (33.4 vs. 23.2). | |
ITEM TWO: | NFL ALL-STAR COMEDY BLITZ |
A variety show of comedy and music presented by the NFL and produced by Comic Relief will air on Super Bowl Eve (1/30) on CBS (8:00 PM ET). The "NFLs All Star Comedy Blitz" will feature many of todays top entertainers and NFL players including BILLY CRYSTAL, SHERYL CROW and BRETT FAVRE. The show will include a salute to the 25th Anniversary of the NFL-United Way of America partnership. The evening benefits the NFL Youth Education Town (YET) in south central Los Angeles, which was launched following Super Bowl XXVII with the help of the United Way. Comic Relief, a leader in fighting homelessness, also is a beneficiary of the show. | |
ITEM THREE: | SUPER BOWL SPECIAL FOR WOMEN |
NFL Films and Lifetime Television have teamed to produce a one-hour Super Bowl special that will air on January 22 (7:00 PM ET) entitled "A Womans Touch in the NFL: Tackling Pro Football." Hosted by CBS NFL reporter MICHELE TAFOYA, the special will showcase womens impact on the NFL, from those on the "inside" to fans. Players wives, a players mother, a national TV reporter, female authors and fans are profiled. Surveys show that at least 40% of the NFL TV audience is female. Women dont only watch football. Nearly 800 girls played on high school football teams this past season, more than twice the number who were active four years ago. | |

The Official Super Bowl XXXIII Game Program that will be sold on Super Bowl Sunday at Miamis Pro Player Stadium also will be available beginning January 20 at selected national newsstands or by calling 877-NFL-BOOK. The program will highlight key performers from notable Super Bowls that were played in Miami and ended with the numeral "III." JOE NAMATH recalls his guarantee that the Jets would win SB III. TERRY BRADSHAW talks about beating "Americas Team," the Dallas Cowboys, in SB XIII. And JOE MONTANA remembers his last-minute game-winning TD pass in SB XXIII. |
