NFL DOMINATES LOCAL TV RATINGS
What brings a community together on a regular basis like an NFL team? If you look at the TV ratings in NFL cities, the answer is nothing.
Despite most games being played during the day, NFL games were the highest-rated television show of the week in the 29 NFL cities 66 percent of the time this season. NFL games ranked first among all TV shows in a local teams market an average of nearly two out of every three weeks throughout the 2000 season.
In 2000, NFL games were the top-rated television program every week the local team played in 13 NFL cities. NFL games were also the top-rated show at least 75 percent of the time in five other NFL markets (Cleveland, Dallas, Philadelphia, San Francisco-Oakland, and St. Louis).
