AFC-WEST FOES KANSAS CITY & SEATTLE CLASH ON MNF

Both teams have won their past two games.

Both teams are seeking to gain ground on 3-1 division-leading Oakland.

And both teams have had success on Monday nights.

That all sets the stage for an exciting Monday Night Football meeting between the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium this week.

"You’ve got regular season, and then you’ve got Monday Night Football," says Seattle coach MIKE HOLMGREN. "It’s different. And then you toss Kansas City in there, and you’ve got to be very geared up and disciplined to go out and play."

Kansas City coach GUNTHER CUNNINGHAM agrees. "The crowd is electrifying," he says. "Seeing Arrowhead at night with the smoke coming out of all the barbecues…To me, I've said it and said it -- Monday night in Kansas City in Arrowhead, I don't think there's a better place in the United States that you could watch a pro football game. It gives me chills."

But Cunningham is wary of the opposition. "Seattle is a tough football team, a well-coached football team," says Cunningham. "The guy who coaches them has been in the Super Bowl, he knows what he's doing. It's going to be a test for us."

Seattle is a test for any club on Monday Night Football. The Seahawks are 12-5 all-time on Monday night for an NFL-best .706 winning percentage (minimum 10 games) on the night. Seattle is also a perfect 3-0 in prime-time games under Holmgren. And Seahawks tailback RICKY WATTERS has been a Monday-night success, rushing for at least 100 yards in two of his past three MNF contests.

Kansas City, however, has won seven of its past 10 Monday-night games at Arrowhead. And Chiefs quarterback ELVIS GRBAC has won two of his three career conference Player of the Week honors on the basis of his Monday-night performances.

His first such honor came after a 382-yard, four-touchdown effort for San Francisco against Miami on November 20, 1995. His other award came after his first MNF appearance with the Chiefs (at Oakland on September 8, 1997), in which he threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score with three seconds remaining. In those two games, Grbac combined for a 68.4 completion percentage with six touchdowns and no interceptions for a 123.5 passer rating.
