BILLS QB ROB JOHNSON
WINNER OF DIRECTV "NFL PLAY OF THE WEEK" AWARD

Quarterback ROB JOHNSON of the Buffalo Bills is the winner of the DirecTV NFL Play of the Week Award for the 12th week of the 2000 season, the NFL announced today.

Returning from a separated shoulder that sidelined him for four weeks, Johnson led Buffalo to two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including an acrobatic 12-yard scramble for the game-winning score in the Bills’ 21-17 win over Kansas City.

On third-and-goal from the Chiefs’ 12-yard line with slightly more than three minutes to play, Johnson dropped back to pass but could not find a receiver. He tucked the ball under his arm and sprinted for the left corner of the end zone where he was hit by two defenders, yet went airborne and managed to lunge to the pylon to get the ball across the goal.

"To make the play like he did, it was a defining play for us," said Bills head coach Wade Phillips. "It defined our football team. It's the grit, the toughness, the want-to, those kinds of things that I think our team has."

The touchdown, giving the Bills the lead with 2:58 to play, was the final score of the game.

This is the first season of the DirecTV NFL Play of the Week Award. DirecTV will donate a total of $10,000 in the names of the weekly winners to the United Way.
