VIKINGS WR CRIS CARTER
WINNER OF DIRECTV "NFL PLAY OF THE WEEK" AWARD
Wide receiver CRIS CARTER of the Minnesota Vikings is the winner of the DirecTV NFL Play of the Week Award for the 14th week of the 2000 season, the NFL announced today.
Carter made a leaping touchdown grab at the beginning of the second quarter last Thursday night to give the Vikings a 14-0 lead over the Detroit Lions and Carter his 1,000th career reception, joining JERRY RICE as the only players in league history to reach that milestone.
On the historic catch, with the ball on the Lions’ four-yard line, Carter ran a fade pattern to the corner of the end zone where he out-jumped his defender while still managing to plant his feet in bounds.
After the catch, Carter’s family joined him on the field to celebrate the milestone. He was excited that his 1,000th catch was a touchdown.
"I don't really think I can describe it,'' said Carter after the game. "It's impossible to plan that kind of thing given all the touchdowns I've scored. I kind of had a dream it was going to be a touchdown.''

This is the first season of the DirecTV NFL Play of the Week Award. DirecTV will donate a total of $10,000 in the names of the weekly winners to the United Way.
