SAINTS QB AARON BROOKS
WINNER OF DIRECTV "NFL PLAY OF THE WEEK" AWARD

Quarterback AARON BROOKS of the New Orleans Saints is the winner of the DirecTV NFL Play of the Week Award for the 15th week of the 2000 season, the NFL announced today.

Brooks’ scramble that led to a touchdown pass to wide receiver WILLIE JACKSON highlighted the Saints’ 31-27 win over the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday that enabled New Orleans to keep pace with the division-rival St. Louis Rams in the NFC Western Division.

With less than six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Saints trailed the 49ers 27-17 and had the ball on second-and-five at San Francisco’s 22-yard line. Brooks stood in shotgun formation, took the snap and attempted to throw but was quickly put under pressure by the 49ers.

The first defender forced Brooks to his left where another defender swiped at him. But Brooks was too mobile and spun away from both players. He then dropped further back, to the 49ers’ 34-yard line, and fired a bullet across the middle that split two defenders and found the chest of Jackson for the touchdown.

This is the first season of the DirecTV NFL Play of the Week Award. DirecTV will donate a total of $10,000 in the names of the weekly winners to the United Way.
