HEAVYWEIGHTS ON THE LINE:  On NFL 2001 Kickoff rosters, there were 290 players weighing at least 300 pounds. There were 83 (52 in AFC; 31 in NFC) 300-pounders in 1991 according to the NFL Record & Fact Book.  The majority of this year’s 300-pounders (221 of 290, 76 percent) play on the offensive line.

The Arizona Cardinals have the NFL’s heaviest starting offensive line (averaging 329.0 per man) despite having only three 300-pounders on the line.  However, those three linemen – guard LEONARD DAVIS (360 pounds) and tackles ANTHONY CLEMENT (355) and L.J. SHELTON (341) – were among the league’s 10 heaviest players.  Of the 155 starting offensive linemen, 124 weigh at least 300 pounds with the weight of the average starter at 311.3.  Eleven clubs have all five OL starters weighing at least 300 pounds.  Denver is the only club without a 300-pound OL starter.  Following are the average weights of starting offensive lines based on 2001 Kickoff rosters:
