Five
Former NFL Europe League Quarterbacks
Victorious in Week 7 Action
Five
former NFL Europe League quarterbacks led their teams to victory, while five
European veterans also scored key touchdowns on Sunday in Week 7 NFL action.
CLINT
STOERNER
(Scotland 2001) became the sixth Europe League quarterback to start in the NFL
this season, leading Dallas to victory over Arizona. Former NFL Europe League passers own a 22-9 record as
starters this season.
Other
NFLEL quarterbacks to emerge victorious were BRAD JOHNSON (London
1995), JIM MILLER (Frankfurt 1995), JAY FIEDLER (Amsterdam 1997)
and JON KITNA (Barcelona 1997).
In
Dallas, Stoerner helped the Cowboys record a 17-3 win over the Cardinals in
his first NFL start.
Stoerner,
who started all 10 games for the Claymores in 2001, completed 9 of 19 passes
for 93 yards and rushed seven times for 23 yards, scoring on a six-yard run.
Cornerback
DUANE HAWTHORNE (Scotland 2000) made six tackles and added one
interception in his first start of the year. Defensive tackle BRANDON NOBLE
(Barcelona 1998-99) added a sack as the Cowboys improved to 2-4.
In
Tampa, the Buccaneers pounded the Minnesota Vikings on the way to a 41-14
victory that was especially memorable for another former Claymore.
Running
back AARON STECKER (Scotland 2000) rushed eight times for 30 yards and
caught two passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. He scored on a 35-yard screen
pass from Johnson, evading several Viking defenders to find the end zone
“It
felt tremendous out there today,” Stecker said. “Now I can say I scored an NFL touchdown.”
Johnson
led the Bucs to victory by completing 18 of 25 passes for 214 yards and two
touchdowns. In addition to the touchdown to Stecker, Johnson fired a five-yard
scoring strike to tight end Dave Moore.
In
Seattle, former Admiral Fiedler kept the Miami Dolphins atop the AFC East with
a 4-2 record as he engineered a 24-20 victory over the hometown Seahawks.
Fiedler
completed 15 of 21 attempts for 213 yards and threw a game-winning 39-yard
touchdown pass to wide receiver James McKnight late in the fourth quarter.
Fiedler also led the Dolphins’ ground attack by rushing for 42 yards on 10
carries. He scored on a 10-yard run in the second quarter.
In
Detroit, Kitna enjoyed a strong outing as he led the 4-3 Bengals to a 31-27
victory over the Detroit Lions. The World Bowl ’97 MVP completed 17 of 27
passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns.
In
Chicago, Miller improved to 4-0 as a starter for the Bears this season but
missed the end of his team’s 37-31 overtime defeat of San Francisco with a
bruised hip.
Before
being knocked out of the game, Miller completed five of 16 passes for 63
yards. Defensive tackle KEITH TRAYLOR (Barcelona 1995) made three
tackles for the 5-1 Bears.
Tight
end JUSTIN SWIFT (Frankfurt 2000) scored on a one-yard touchdown catch
for the Niners, while JOSE CORTEZ (Amsterdam 2000) kicked a 40-yard
field goal and 4 extra points.
In
Baltimore, JASON BROOKINS (Rhein 2001) led the Super Bowl champion
Ravens to an 18-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in his first NFL
start.
Trailing
17-6 in the fourth quarter, Brookins scored on a two-yard touchdown run. He
finished the game with 82 yards on 19 carries and added two catches for 12
yards. Fullback OBAFEMI AYANBADEJO (England 1998) rushed for 24 yards
on six carries for the 4-3 Ravens.
KURT
WARNER
(Amsterdam 1998) completed 29 of 47 passes for 385 yards and one touchdown
(eight yards to WR Torry Holt).

Oakland
Raiders 20, Philadelphia Eagles 10
Defensive
lineman JOSH TAVES (Barcelona 1996 & 1998) recorded two tackles and
one sack as the Raiders improved to an AFC-best 5-1. DAVID AKERS
(Berlin 1999) kicked a 34-yard field goal and one extra point for the Eagles.
Washington
Redskins 35, NY Giants 21
Defensive
backs DAVID TERRELL (Rhein 1999) and CENTRAL McCLELLION
(Scotland 2000-01) each recorded five tackles as the Redskins defeated New
York.
Denver
Broncos 31, New England Patriots 20
Defensive
back GEORGE COGHILL (Scotland 1995-96) recorded three tackles for the
victorious Broncos. Defensive tackle BOBBY HAMILTON (Amsterdam 1995-96)
had one sack for the Patriots, while kicker ADAM VINATIERI (Amsterdam
1996) landed field goals of 24 and 44 yards, as well as two extra points.
