Each Sunday evening, the National Football League will e-mail scores, recaps and standings in order to assist you in your coverage of the 2001 regular season.  The e-mail will be sent at approximately 9:00 p.m. ET, following Sunday’s afternoon action.

Jacksonville - The Buffalo Bills won their first game of the season Thursday, topping the Jacksonville Jaguars 13-10.  The winning points were provided by K Jake Arians, who kicked the game-winning 46-yard field goal with 1:03 remaining in the fourth quarter, and also scored the Bills’ first points on a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter.  QB Rob Johnson moved the Bills 48 yards to set up Arians’ deciding kick.  Johnson completed 23 of 30 passes for 238 yards and threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to WR Eric Moulds (4 catches for 60 yards), while RB Larry Centers caught 7 passes for 59 yards.  Buffalo’s defense held Jacksonville to 247 yards of total offense.  Jaguars QB Mark Brunell, who surpassed 20,000 yards passing for his career, completed 16 of 26 attempts for 150 yards and a 20-yard touchdown to TE Kyle Brady.

New Orleans – Falcons QB Chris Chandler threw touchdown passes of 57 and 39 yards and completed 14 of 20 attempts for 187 yards.  Falcons RB Maurice Smith gained 83 yards on 22 carries.  Saints QB Aaron Brooks completed 23 of 39 passes for 249 yards and one touchdown.

Cleveland – Browns QB Tim Couch was 11-of-18 for 149 yards and rookie RB James Jackson rushed for 77 yards and one TD for the Browns.  Ravens K Matt Stover set an NFL record by making a field goal for the 32nd straight game.  Ravens QB Elvis Grbac finished 16-of-20 for 142 yards.

Washington – Redskins WR Rod Gardner tied the game with 7:35 left when he caught an 85-yard touchdown pass from QB Tony Banks down the left sideline.  K Brett Conway converted a 23-yard kick in overtime for the game-winner.  Banks threw for 346 yards, completing 17-of-30 passes.  Redskins RB Stephen Davis had 99 yards on 26 carries.

Cincinnati – Bears RB Anthony Thomas ran for 188 yards and a touchdown.  He darted through big holes on his 22 carries and wound up with the eighth-best rushing game in Bears history.  Bears QB Jim Miller completed 23 of 30 attempts for 232 yards, and had a 1-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.  Bengals QB Jon Kitna completed 19 of 46 passes for 244 yards.  The Bears are on their longest winning streak since 1995, the last time they made the playoffs.  They are off to their best start since 1991.

Indianapolis – Colts WR David Patten caught two scoring passes, including the longest pass play for a touchdown in New England history (91 yards), threw for a score and also reached the end zone on a 29-yard run.  Patten had four catches for a career-best 117 yards.

Tampa Bay – Steelers RB Jerome Bettis passed for a touchdown and ran for another score and the Steelers tied a club record with 10 sacks.  Bettis carried 17 times for 143 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that opened a 14-3 lead.  Bettis has four straight 100-yard games and 50 in his career.  Steelers LB Joey Porter had four sacks and DE Kimo Von Oelhoffen added three.  Buccaneers WR Keyshawn Johnson had 10 receptions for 159 yards.

New York – Rams RB Trung Canidate scored twice and rushed for 195 yards on 23 carries and added three receptions for 37 yards.  Rams QB Kurt Warner finished 18-for-27 for 215 yards.

Detroit –Titans K Joe Nedney kicked three field goals in the first half, and a 46-yard field goal with five seconds left in the fourth quarter to lift the Titans to victory.  Titans TE Frank Wycheck finished with seven receptions for a career-best 100 yards.

San Diego – Chargers KR Ronney Jenkins returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown.

San Diego QB Doug Flutie threw touchdown passes of 17 and 20 yards to WR Jeff Graham in the second half.  Flutie went 21-of-32 for 280 yards and one interception.  The Chargers forced three turnovers and had four sacks.

Minnesota – Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper was 18-for-27 for 184 yards through the air and ran nine times for 70 yards.  The rushing touchdown was his fifth of the season.  Minnesota RB Doug Chapman rushed for 90 yards on 22 carries.  Vikings WR Randy Moss had eight receptions for 73 yards.

Arizona – Cardinals RB Michael Pittman rushed for 95 yards in 26 carries and caught four passes for 42 yards.  Chiefs QB Trent Green completed 21 of 43 passes for 352 yards and a touchdown.  Cardinals WR David Boston had seven catches for 131 yards.
