SATURDAY GAMES
New England – The Patriots scored 20 consecutive second-quarter points en route to a 20-3 halftime lead. New England RB Antowain Smith carried 26 times for 156 yards and a touchdown and the Patriots’ defense forced three Miami turnovers.
San Francisco – Coming off consecutive home shutout victories, the 49ers’ defense rose to the occasion again, holding Philadelphia to 3 points on 2 trips inside the San Francisco 5-yard line. One goal-line stand saw the 49ers hold the Eagles without a score on 6 consecutive plays inside the 2-yard line early in the fourth quarter.
Oakland – Tennessee QB Steve McNair completed 15 of 27 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown and set up kicker Joe Nedney’s game-winning field goal with 1:47 left in the game on a fourth quarter run inside the Oakland 10-yard line.
SUNDAY EARLY GAMES
Atlanta – Falcons K Jay Feely connected on all four of his field-goal attempts, including the game-winning 52-yarder with no time left in regulation, to lift Atlanta to .500 (7-7) with a 33-30 victory. Falcons QB Chris Chandler passed for 431 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Washington – With Chicago lined up for the game-tying field goal in the fourth quarter, punter Brad Maynard took the snap and threw a 27-yard touchdown to LB Brian Urlacher for the winning score. The fake FG marked Urlacher’s first career offensive touchdown. Chicago RB Anthony Thomas ran for 82 yards and WR Marty Booker caught 7 passes for 74 yards.
Baltimore – Ravens RB Terry Allen carried 22 times for 91 yards and a touchdown, as the Baltimore defense recorded its first shutout this season. Bengals RB Corey Dillon ran for 127 yards, becoming the first player to eclipse 100 rushing yards against the Baltimore defense in 46 regular-season games.
Pittsburgh – Steelers QB Kordell Stewart accounted for four touchdowns (3 pass, 1 rush), completing 17 of 26 passes for 226 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating of 131.3. Pittsburgh RB Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala ran for a career-high 126 yards on 26 carries.
Minnesota – Jacksonville RB Stacey Mack scored 2 touchdowns and ran for 111 yards on 27 carries and WR Jimmy Smith had 8 receptions for 122 yards to lead the Jaguars. Jacksonville kicker Mike Hollis connected on three field goals.
N.Y. Giants – Giants QB Kerry Collins connected with WR Ike Hilliard on a 7-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left for the winning score. Collins threw for 334 yards on the day. WR Amani Toomer caught 8 passes for 124 yards.
Tampa Bay – Buccaneers RB Mike Alstott rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on 24 attempts and QB Brad Johnson threw three touchdown passes as Tampa Bay took a 30-0 halftime lead on their way to a 48-21 victory.
Carolina – Rams RB Marshall Faulk rushed for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns on 30 attempts and caught 3 passes for 50 yards. St. Louis QB Kurt Warner threw 2 touchdown passes, one each to WR Ricky Proehl and TE Ernie Conwell. Panthers QB Chris Weinke passed for 302 yards and a touchdown.
Kansas City – Chiefs RB Tony Richardson scored on a 1-yard plunge with 48 seconds remaining in regulation to give Kansas City a 20-17 win over the San Diego Chargers. Quarterback Trent Green completed 19 of 28 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown.
SUNDAY LATE GAMES
Green Bay – Packers TE Bubba Franks caught 2 first-quarter touchdown passes from QB Brett Favre to give Green Bay an early lead at snowy Lambeau Field. Green Bay RB Ahman Green carried 21 times for 150 yards and fellow RB Dorsey Levens had 97 combined yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.
Arizona – The Cardinals used a 17-point second quarter to secure a victory over the Dallas Cowboys. LB Ronald McKinnon opened the scoring on a 24-yard interception return, followed by a 1-yard touchdown run by Michael Pittman and a 34-yard FG by new Cardinal kicker Cedric Oglesby. SUNDAY NIGHT
