SUNDAY EARLY GAMES
New England – New England running back Antowain Smith, playing against his former team, rushed for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 42-yard score late in the fourth quarter. The Patriots’ defense recorded 4 sacks and intercepted 2 passes.
St. Louis – St. Louis running backs Marshall Faulk (183 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 carries) and Trung Canidate (145 yards and 1 touchdown on 16 carries) both rushed for 100 yards. Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce had a 26-yard touchdown catch.
Jacksonville – Jacksonville quarterback Mark Brunell completed 20 of 32 attempts for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns, one each to wide receivers Jimmy Smith (8 catches for 63 yards) and Keenan McCardell (5 for 61 yards). Jaguars running back Stacey Mack rushed for 71 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 carries.
Atlanta – Atlanta running back Maurice Smith rushed for 148 yards on 27 carries. Falcons rookie quarterback Michael Vick threw his first career touchdown pass (9 yards) to tight end Alge Crumpler in the first quarter. Dallas running back Troy Hambrick rushed for 127 yards on 20 carries.
Chicago – Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre completed 19 of 32 attempts for 268 yards and 2 touchdowns. Packers wide receiver Bill Schroeder caught 4 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown and running back Ahman Green rushed for 93 yards.
New York – New York running back Curtis Martin rushed for 113 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a 25-yard score. Jets wide receiver Wayne Chrebet caught 6 passes for 67 yards and New York kicker John Hall made 2 field goals, including a 51-yarder.
Indianapolis – Miami quarterback Jay Fielder completed 17 of 29 attempts for 259 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dolphins’ rookie wide receiver Chris Chambers caught 3 passes for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the game-winning 29-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Cleveland – Pittsburgh kicker Kris Brown made 5 field goals, including the game-winning 32-yarder in OT. Steelers running back Jerome Bettis rushed for 163 yards and quarterback Kordell Stewart completed 18 of 32 attempts for 188 yards.
Detroit – Tampa Bay running back Warrick Dunn rushed for 51 yards and caught 5 passes for another 60 yards and a touchdown. Buccaneers quarterback Brad Johnson completed 20 of 37 attempts for 188 yards and a touchdown.
SUNDAY LATE GAMES
Philadelphia – Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb completed 19 of 29 attempts for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns while rushing for another 37 yards and a score. Eagles running back Duce Staley rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and caught 6 passes for 85 yards.
San Francisco – San Francisco quarterback Jeff Garcia completed 21 of 34 attempts for 252 yards and 4 touchdowns. 49ers running back Garrison Hearst rushed for 145 yards and caught 3 passes for 15 yards. San Francisco wide receiver Terrell Owens caught 8 passes for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Arizona – New York running back Tiki Barber rushed for 118 yards on 17 carries. Giants quarterback Kerry Collins completed 15 of 24 attempts for 155 yards and a touchdown to wide receiver Ike Hilliard. New York defensive end Michael Strahan recorded a sack to bring his season total to 15.
Denver – Denver quarterback Brian Griese completed 21 of 31 attempts for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns. Broncos running back Terrell Davis rushed for 83 yards and Denver’s defense registered 4 interceptions and a sack.
SUNDAY NIGHT
Seattle - The Seattle Seahawks, led by second-year RB Shaun Alexander, defeated the Oakland Raiders 34-27 Sunday night. Alexander rushed for a career and team record 266 yards and 3 touchdowns, including an 88-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Alexander’s performance was the fourth-best rushing game in NFL history, behind Corey Dillon (278 yards), Walter Payton (275) and O.J. Simpson (273). Alexander’s 88-yard touchdown also broke a team record for longest scoring play from scrimmage. Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck completed 15 of 23 attempts for 181 yards and a touchdown, while Seahawks second-year WR Darrell Jackson caught 7 passes for 102 yards and a score – all in the first half. QB RICH GANNON completed 24 of 38 attempts for 257 yards and 2 touchdowns for Oakland.
