NFL TUESDAYS:

PLAYERS IN THE COMMUNITY ON THEIR DAYS OFF

Oakland wide receiver TIM BROWN will give local youths a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity Tuesday: to be a Raider for a day.

The “Tim Brown Mentor Mini-Camp ” is an annual event hosted by Brown and his charity, Athletes and Entertainers for Kids, that provides disadvantaged boys ages 8 through12 the opportunity to team with a mentor father and participate in a football training camp. In its 3rd year, the program assists boys with absentee fathers and urban children who can benefit from encouragement from a caring adult.  Brown’s teammates—including WR Jerry Rice, CB Charles Woodson, RB Tyrone Wheatley, QB Rich Gannon, G Steve Wisniewski, TE Roland Williams and WR James Jett—and coaches will join civic leaders from the police and fire departments and leading East Bay companies to provide this opportunity for at-risk boys in the Oakland community.

In the 2001 season, the NFL highlights these day-off community endeavors with a program entitled “NFL Tuesdays.”  The program raises awareness, both locally and nationally, about the day-off charitable work of NFL players and coaches.

“For years, NFL players and coaches have been working extensively in their communities on their day off,” says NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.  “While many of us use our two-day weekend to relax, countless NFL players and coaches use their one day off during the season to give back to their communities.  It’s time players received more credit for that.”

Every week, the NFL gathers information from its clubs about player and coach activities scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday.  The information then will be distributed to media and fans.

Following are some of the activities players and coaches will be participating in this November 13 (for a complete list, please log on to NFL.com):
