DETMER STEERS EAGLES PAST 49ERS

In his first start in three years, Philadelphia QB KOY DETMER completed 18 of 26 attempts for 227 yards and two touchdowns, adding a one-yard touchdown run along the way, as the Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers 38-17 on Monday night.

Philadelphia opened up a 21-7 halftime lead with three second-quarter touchdowns.  Sandwiched between touchdown passes from Detmer to WRs TODD PINKSTON and ANTONIO FREEMAN was a 76-yard punt return-touchdown by the Eagles’ BRIAN MITCHELL, giving him an NFL-record 13 combined kickoff and punt returns for scores.

San Francisco QB JEFF GARCIA completed 29 of 51 attempts for 284 yards and 2 touchdowns, both to WR TERRELL OWENS, who had 13 receptions for 166 yards.

Detmer was forced to leave the game late in the third quarter with a dislocated elbow, but Eagles backup QB A.J. FEELEY threw a one-yard touchdown pass to TE CHAD LEWIS to put the game out of reach.
