September 9, 2002TEXANS VICTORIOUS IN FIRST GAME IN FRANCHISE HISTORYThe Houston Texans opened the first chapter in franchise history with a 19-10 victory over the state-rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night at new Reliant Stadium in Houston. Texans rookie QB DAVID CARR threw for two touchdowns, the second coming on a 65-yard catch-and-run by WR COREY BRADFORD that put the Texans ahead for good early in the fourth quarter. Dallas RB EMMITT SMITH ran for 67 yards, cutting his margin to catch WALTER PAYTON for the career rushing record to 473 yards. The Texans are now one of only two expansion teams to start 1-0, joining the 1961 Minnesota Vikings. |
