October 21, 2003 CHIEFS HOLD OFF RAIDERS ON MONDAY NIGHT The Kansas City Chiefs remained undefeated at 7-0 after holding off the AFC West division-rival Oakland Raiders 17-10 in Oakland on Monday night by tackling Raiders WR TIM BROWN at the Chiefs’ one yard line as time expired. The Chiefs were led by RB PRIEST HOLMES, who carried 27 times for 123 yards and what ultimately proved to be the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard run. Holmes added four receptions for 50 yards. TE TONY GONZALEZ had three catches for 87 yards and became the Chiefs’ franchise leader in receptions with his 417th catch. Raiders backup QB MARQUES TUIASOSOPO started the second half for the Raiders and after finding a rhythm late in the third quarter, almost brought Oakland back. Down 17-3 with just under five minutes remaining, Tuiasosopo led one touchdown drive, capped by a one yard run by RB ZACK CROCKETT. Following a Chiefs punt with 1:47 left, Tuiasosopo marched the Raiders back down the field only to have Brown stopped inches from the goal line as the clock ran out. Tuiasosopo finished the game 16 of 28 for 224 yards, all coming in the second half. Kansas City puts its spotless record on the line in Buffalo next Sunday, while Oakland has a bye in Week 8. |
