NFL TUESDAYS -- PLAYERS IN THE COMMUNITY

NFL PLAYERS AND TEAMS PROVIDE MORE TURKEYS AND MEALS
TO LESS FORTUNATE FOR THANKSGIVING

This Tuesday, NFL players and teams will be busy spreading Thanksgiving cheer by distributing baskets and delivering and serving meals to those less fortunate.

ATLANTA FALCONS linebacker KEITH BROOKING will have a busy Tuesday as he will serve hot Thanksgiving meals with his teammates at the Crossroads Community Ministry and also at an Atlanta Community Food Bank Thanksgiving event.  In addition, he will assist the Atlanta Community Food Bank to collect turkeys in the fourth annual Falcons Bird-for-a-Bird campaign.  The first 250 fans that donate a turkey will receive a Brooking bobble head.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS Head Coach MIKE TICE will prepare Thanksgiving meals at two homeless shelters, the St. Stephen’s “Drop-In” Center and the Salvation Army Harbor Light Center.  He will also make a $5,000 donation to each organization.

For the ninth year, the ST. LOUIS RAMS are teaming up with the Urban League to serve families in need. This year, the Rams will provide and help serve more than 1,000 Thanksgiving dinners at the Urban League Community Outreach Center.

These are just a few of many Thanksgiving community-service activities taking place as part of “NFL Tuesday” on November 25.

Tuesday is the traditional day off for NFL players during the season.  It is the day players escape the rigors of pro football and get reacquainted with rest and relaxation.  But many players also use their day off to “go to work” in their communities.

The NFL highlights these day-off community endeavors with a program entitled “NFL Tuesdays.” The program is designed to raise awareness, both locally and nationally, about the day-off charitable work of NFL players and coaches.

“For years, NFL players and coaches have been working extensively in their communities on their day off,” says NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.  “While many of us use our two-day weekend to relax, countless NFL players and coaches use their one day off during the season to give back to their communities.  It’s time players received more credit for that.”
