NFL TUESDAYS: TEAMS SHOW SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY IN FIFTH ANNUAL HOMETOWN HUDDLE WITH UNITED WAY ON OCTOBER 7

Tuesday, October 7 is the NFL/United Way “Hometown Huddle.” On this day, NFL teams across the country are working with United Way to help make a difference in their communities. Whether it’s building homes for low-income families, encouraging kids to stay in school or serving meals to the homeless, NFL players and coaches are doing their part to improve lives and strengthen communities.

Now in its 30th year, the NFL and United Way partnership is proof positive that much more can be accomplished collectively than any one person can do alone. That’s why they are encouraging football fans and all Americans to get personally involved in their communities.

The NEW YORK GIANTS and NEW YORK JETS are joining forces with the United Way of New York and the City of New York Parks and Recreation Center to help bring a computer lab to the Highbridge Recreation Center in Washington Heights. Players will spend the afternoon computer tutorials with the children in the center’s after-school program.

Players, coaches and staff of the WASHINGTON REDSKINS will join United States Surgeon General RICHARD H. CARMONA and the Washington Redskins Leadership Council to host ‘First Down for Fitness,’ an event to help promote exercise, nutrition and overall lifestyle for more than 100 local youth.

Many special children will spend a day filled with bowling, games and pizza with their favorite players from the BUFFALO BILLS and the TENNESSEE TITANS.

The ATLANTA FALCONS, DETROIT LIONS, HOUSTON TEXANS and NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS will host groups of children for sports camps and football clinics.

The FALCONS, CLEVELAND BROWNS, GREEN BAY PACKERS, MIAMI DOLPHINS, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS, and REDSKINS will spend Tuesday building, painting and landscaping to bring some wonderful new facilities to their neighborhoods.

“For years, NFL players and coaches have been working extensively in their communities on their day off,” says NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.  “While many of us use our two-day weekend to relax, countless NFL players and coaches use their one day off during the season to give back to their communities.  It’s time players received more credit for that.”

Here is a sampling of what NFL teams are doing on October 7:
