PLAYERS IN THE COMMUNITY ON THEIR DAYS OFF

CHIEFS' GREEN HOSTS A BARBECUE, TEXANS' WONG WASHES CARS AND THE PACKERS TRAVEL BY HELICOPTER TO VISIT CADETS

This Tuesday, September 23, Kansas’ City Chiefs' QB TRENT GREEN will host a charity barbecue, “Tailgating with Trent” with proceeds benefiting the Child Life Department at Children's Mercy Hospital. Among participants will be Green’s teammates, including TE TONY GONZALEZ and WR DANTE HALL.  The Trent Green Family Foundation has supported the department by annually donating $30,000 to enhance the hospital's Star Bright World program.

Houston Texans' LB KAILEE WONG will help members of his S.A.C.K (Straight A's Club for Kailee) members, participate in a car wash fundraiser for the mentoring program.

The Packers'  WR DONALD DRIVER, DT CLETIDUS HUNT, QB CRAIG NALL and several other teammates and staff will board a military helicopter to Fort McCoy, WI to speak with cadets ages 16 to 18 about the importance of having goals and earning respect.

These are just a few of the many community service activities taking place as part of “NFL Tuesdays.”

Tuesday is the traditional day off for NFL players during the season.  It is the day players escape the rigors of pro football and get reacquainted with rest and relaxation.  But many players also use their day off to “go to work” in their communities.

The NFL highlights these day-off community endeavors with a program entitled “NFL Tuesdays.” The program is designed to raise awareness, both locally and nationally, about the day-off charitable work of NFL players and coaches.

“For years, NFL players and coaches have been working extensively in their communities on their day off,” says NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.  “While many of us use our two-day weekend to relax, countless NFL players and coaches use their one day off during the season to give back to their communities.  It’s time players received more credit for that.”

Players will participate as celebrity bowlers in the “Bowling for the Future” outing hosted by the Atlanta Hawks’ Shareef Abdur-Rahim. The event raises money for the development of the Reef House in East Point, GA.

As part of "Project GRAD" - Crumpler will speak to approximately 8,000 elementary, middle and high school students from 29 metro-Atlanta schools in the Georgia Dome. He will emphasize the importance of staying focused in school as a means of achieving academic and career success.

Draft, the team's spokesman for the Atlanta NFL/YET Center, will make a surprise visit to the facility and spend time with the students after school.

Moorman will attend the dedication ceremony of the Bills' fourth Habitat for Humanity home in Lackawanna. The home, which Moorman helped to build, was completed as part of the "Building with the Bills" program. Both Choice One Communications and 84 Lumber sponsored the four-year program with Habitat.

As one of five "Hats Off to Our Heroes" visits, the Cleveland Browns will team with each branch of the military during the month of September for a community outreach endeavor. Browns players will visit Collinwood High School with members from the Army and join approximately 300 high school juniors to lead a discussion about the keys to success from dedication, hard work and staying in school.

As part of the Browns' Giant Eagle Jr. Training Table, Crocker and Lehan will visit students at Craddock Elementary to discuss the A.B.C.'s of health and fitness.

Miller will meet and distribute Texans bookmarks and posters to children visiting the Cy-Fair College Library in Cypress. The event is in conjunction with the Reliant Energy Power Readers Program, which encourages good reading habits of age appropriate literature.

Snow will host more than 100 Special Olympics Flag Football Athletes at the Union Federal Football Center on Monday, September 22. Flag Football teams from 12 different Indiana counties will be participating. Athletes will participate in football drills and a flag football game while female athletes will take part in a cheerleading clinic. A special coach’s certification class will be held as well.

DeMulling and Thornton will participate in the annual United Way kick-off event with Eli Lilly and Company. They will be on site to help generate interest and enthusiasm among employees to support the United Way and community programs through gifts of time and money.

Ayoldele is promoting the city’s "Jax Reads!" program. The featured novel is Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. Akin encourages people of all ages to join book clubs throughout the city to read and discuss the novel.

Green, who suffers from Diabetes, discussing the disease in a local health publication, H Magazine. He will also be the spokesman for the Diabetes Centers at Baptist Medical Center and Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

Over 25 Miami Dolphins players including Seau, Fiedler and McMichael will participate in the Miami Dolphins Smirnoff Super Bowl of Fashion, which raises raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The players, wearing tuxedos from Fred's Formalwear, will accompany their wives or girlfriends modeling the latest fashions from White House/ Black Market. The 15th Annual Miami Dolphins Smirnoff Super Bowl of Fashion benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

To kick off the Vikings/United Way "Two Weeks to Make a Difference" program, the players will help construct a playground at St. David's Child Development and Family Services in Minnetonka. The two-week program promotes volunteerism, as well as the Community Quarterback and Hometown Huddle programs.

On Monday, the team will take part in the Giants’ Seventh Annual Ronald McDonald House Dinner.  Barber, Strahan, and Garrett will lead the evening’s festivities, including a Giants memorabilia and experience auction.  Proceeds from the dinner will go towards funding the “New York Giants Room” on the Sports Floor at The Ronald McDonald House, where children and their families can stay while in town receiving some of the world’s finest medical attention.

Oakland Raiders

Parella will have his photo taken with his four children, Zach 9, Cal 7, Alex 5, and Jacob 1, for the Responsible Fatherhood Program, to promote fathers taking an active role in their children’s development and upbringing. The Oakland Raiders will have a pre-game ceremony on November 16, at The Net Coliseum to promote this event.

Maddox and his wife Jennifer will speak at WORD FM's monthly Lunch Bunch at St. Stephen's Church in Sewickley. WORD is a local Christian radio station. Following lunch, they will give their Christian testimonies and take questions from the sold-out audience.

Haynes will visit the Boys & Girls Club of Pittsburgh as part of their after-school program. This is the first of many regular visits Haynes will make throughout the season.

San Diego Chargers

Brees, Tomlinson, along with almost the entire team and the Charger Girls, will participate in the San Diego Chargers 3rd Annual Taste of the NFL. Along with more than 500 guests, they will experience the "tasting" recipes from 14 of San Diego's finest restaurants. All proceeds benefit the San Diego Food Bank.

Van Buren and Milligan will assist in the Junior Charger Gatorade Camp, a project of the Chargers Rookie Club.

Gordon will serve as a surprise guest to take photos with the finalists and announce the winner at the Rams' Media Guide Cover Art Competition reception. In 1992, Rams chairman and owner Georgia Frontiere launched the competition to encourage students to continue their pursuit of the arts. The grand prize winner not only receives the honor having their entry on the cover of the annual media guide, but the student is also awarded a $5,000 scholarship to continue their education at a two or four-year college or university. Since inception, more than $50,000 in scholarship money has been awarded to student artists.

The players will visit students at local middle schools to speak on the importance of making good choices. Along with the program, the players will meet with a select group of students who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in school.
