AFC PLAYOFF PICTURE STARTS DEVELOPING SATURDAY
Eleven teams in the AFC aim to be seated at a playoff table for six as
three short weeks and a list of big games remain in the 2004 NFL regular
season.
The New England Patriots (12-1), Pittsburgh Steelers (12-1) and
Indianapolis Colts (10-3) have clinched division titles and are working
toward first-round byes and playoff games at home. Pittsburgh helps kick off
NFL action early this week with a nationally televised Saturday road game
against the New York Giants at 1:30 PM ET (CBS). Indianapolis hosts
Baltimore Sunday night (ESPN, 8:30 PM ET) while New England travels to Miami
for a Monday night matchup (ABC, 9:00 PM ET).
That leaves three seats open for eight hungry teams.
"Our playoffs start now," says New York Jets quarterback CHAD
PENNINGTON. The Jets (9-4) hold the inside track for an AFC Wild Card
berth with the best record among non-division leaders. "We play playoff
teams down the stretch, and we have to find a way to win some of these
ballgames. We control our own destiny."
