COLTS QB PEYTON MANNING, RAVENS S ED REED &
PATRIOTS K ADAM VINATIERI
NAMED AFC PLAYERS OF MONTH FOR NOVEMBER

Quarterback PEYTON MANNING of the Indianapolis Colts, safety ED REED of the Baltimore Ravens, and kicker ADAM VINATIERI of the New England Patriots are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Month for November, the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: QB PEYTON MANNING, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

The Colts’ Manning completed 19 touchdown passes against only three interceptions in November, marking the first time in NFL history a player passed for 19 touchdowns in any month.  Leading the team to a perfect 4-0 November, Manning completed 81 of 112 passes (72.3 percent) for 1,035 yards and a 129.3 passer rating. Indianapolis scored 30 points or more in all four of its November games, played within a span of 18 days.  Manning threw at least four touchdown passes in each outing, establishing a record of five consecutive games with four or more touchdown passes, which had stood since 1984 (DAN MARINO, Miami). Manning’s lowest single-game passer rating in November was 108.8 at Chicago. If Manning passes for at least two touchdowns at home Sunday against division rival Tennessee, he will tie former Colt and Pro Football Hall of Famer JOHNNY UNITAS for an NFL-record 12 consecutive games with multiple touchdown passes.

In his seventh year from Tennessee, this is the second career Player of the Month Award for Manning.

DEFENSE: S ED REED, BALTIMORE RAVENS

Baltimore’s Reed, who recorded the longest interception return in NFL history with a 106-yard sprint for a touchdown on November 7 against Cleveland, also intercepted a pass in each of the next two games for a total of 186 interception return yards in the month.  Reed’s plays sealed a win or changed momentum in victories against Cleveland and on the road against the Jets.  The native of St. Rose, LA, 21 miles west of New Orleans, compiled a total of 24 tackles in November as the Ravens were 3-1 for the month and remain in strong contention for an AFC playoff berth. Reed stands second in the NFL with six interceptions and is averaging 48.3 yards per interception return. The league’s all-time record for the longest average interception return in a single season with a minimum of six interceptions is 50.5 yards, set by Reed’s teammate DEION SANDERS in 1994 with San Francisco.

In his third year from Miami, this marks the NFL All-Star’s first career Player of the Month distinction.

SPECIAL TEAMS: K ADAM VINATIERI, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

Vinatieri, a nine-year veteran from South Dakota State, was a perfect 14-of-14 in field goal attempts and 10-for-10 in point-after-touchdowns for a total of 52 points in November, which saw the Patriots post a 4-0 record. The Yankton, SD native also completed his only pass attempt for a touchdown on a fake field goal to help New England earn a win at St. Louis on November 7. The 52 November points scored by Vinatieri represents the highest point total of any four-game stretch in his career. The former NFL Europe Amsterdam Admiral currently leads the NFL in points scored with 112 and is on pace to score a career-high 163 points this season. Vinatieri is only the second player in NFL history to post 100 or more points in each of his first nine seasons (JASON ELAM, Denver).

This is the third Player of the Month Award for Vinatieri.
