COWBOYS DEFEAT REDSKINS
21-18 In the first meeting between Bill Parcells and Joe Gibbs in 14 years, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Washington Redskins 21-18 on Monday night Cowboys QB VINNY TESTAVERDE was 14 of 29 for 214 yards and had one touchdown pass to TE JASON WITTEN for a 10-yard score. With the Cowboys up 14-10 as the teams headed to the fourth quarter, Dallas RB RICHIE ANDERSON threw a halfback option pass to WR TERRY GLENN to put Dallas up 21-10. Redskins QB MARK BRUNELL responded with a 15-yard touchdown pass to WR ROD GARDNER followed by a successful two-point conversion to WR TAYLOR JACOBS to pull the Redskins to within two points with 4:30 remaining. The Cowboys were able to use all but 21 seconds of the clock on their final drive because the Redskins were out of timeouts. Washington hit on a 46-yard pass to Gardner to the Dallas 21, but he could not get out of bounds before time expired. Brunell finished the game 25 of 43 for 325 yards and two touchdown passes, both to Gardner. Gardner had 10 receptions for 167 yards.
