EAGLES QB DONOVAN MC NABB, BUCCANEERS LB DERRICK BROOKS & PANTHERS K JOHN KASAY NAMED NFC PLAYERS OF WEEK 13

Quarterback DONOVAN MC NABB of the Philadelphia Eagles, linebacker DERRICK BROOKS of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and kicker JOHN KASAY of the Carolina Panthers are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the 13th week of the 2004 season (December 5-6), the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: QB DONOVAN MC NABB, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

McNabb led the Eagles to a resounding 47-17 win over the Green Bay Packers at Lincoln Financial Field, ending the visitors’ six-game winning streak. McNabb completed 32 of 43 attempts for a club-record 464 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions, posting a career-high 147.8 passer rating. The Chicago native completed his first 14 pass attempts, and when combined with 10 in a row to end his day against the Giants on November 28, McNabb’s 24 consecutive completions surpassed JOE MONTANA’s NFL record (22, 1987). McNabb’s career-high five touchdown passes was his fifth game with at least four touchdown passes this season, joining BRETT FAVRE, PEYTON MANNING and DAN MARINO as the only players in league history to accomplish the feat. His five touchdown passes all came in the first half, as Philadelphia raced to a 35-3 lead, with McNabb becoming the seventh player in NFL annals with five touchdown passes in a half.

In his sixth season from Syracuse, this is McNabb’s fifth Player of the Week Award.

DEFENSE: LB DERRICK BROOKS, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Brooks was instrumental in the Buccaneers stifling the powerful Atlanta offense, leading the defensive charge for Tampa Bay en route to a 27-0 shutout victory over the Falcons. Brooks finished with a game-high 12 tackles, 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and two passes defensed. Early in the second quarter, with Atlanta trailing 7-0, the Falcons faced a first and goal at the Tampa Bay one-yard line. Brooks rose to the occasion and helped prevent a touchdown, deflecting a pass that was intercepted by DWIGHT SMITH and resulted in a touchback. Tampa Bay then drove for a field goal and a 10-0 advantage. Later in the quarter, Brooks sacked MICHAEL VICK and forced a fumble, which was recovered by Bucs defensive end GREG SPIRES. Eleven plays later, a field goal would give Tampa Bay a 13-0 halftime advantage they would never relinquish.

In his 10th season from Florida State, this is Brooks’ fifth Player of the Week Award.

SPECIAL TEAMS: K JOHN KASAY, CAROLINA PANTHERS

Kasay’s leg helped the Panthers to a 32-21 road win over the NFC South rival New Orleans Saints, improving the Panthers to 5-7. Kasay, who had missed the last two games due to a calf injury, connected on six of six field goals from 30, 50, 46, 25, 21 and 21 yards, setting a franchise record and career best for the most field goals in a single game. His 20 points on the day were a career-high, as the Panthers won their fourth consecutive game. His 50-yard field goal was his second from at least 50 yards this season and in his career the Athens, Georgia native has connected on 25 of 48 (.521) from 50 and beyond.

In his 14th season from Georgia, this is Kasay’s fifth Player of the Week Award.
