LIONS WR ROY WILLIAMS Voters on NFL.com have made their choice. Wide receiver ROY WILLIAMS of the Detroit Lions is the PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK for games played on September 19-20, the NFL announced today. Williams caught four passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns as the Lions defeated the Houston Texans 28-16. On Williams’ second touchdown catch of the game, the 6-3 receiver was at full extension in the front corner of the endzone, yet managed to keep both feet inbounds. Williams was selected from among five finalists. The other finalists were safety MICHAEL BOULWARE of the Seattle Seahawks, safety ERIK COLEMAN of the New York Jets, kick returner J.R. REED of the Philadelphia Eagles and wide receiver ERNEST WILFORD of the Jacksonville Jaguars. After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville. 901-434-7786 NFL.COM VOTERS SELECT Quarterback AARON BROOKS of the New Orleans Saints and running back DE SHAUN FOSTER of the Carolina Panthers are the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week for games played on September 19-20, the NFL announced today. Brooks completed 25 of 34 attempts for 279 yards and three touchdowns for a passer rating of 127.0 in the Saints’ 30-27 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Brooks capped off his performance with a 16-yard, game-winning touchdown pass to Donte' Stallworth, with 1:01 remaining in the game.Foster rushed for 174 yards and one touchdown on 32 carries in the Panthers’ 28-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Foster’s performance included a team-record 71-yard run. Brooks and Foster were selected from among finalists in air and ground categories through 46,240 fan votes. The other FedEx Express NFL Player of the Week finalists were Indianapolis Colts quarterback PEYTON MANNING and New York Jets quarterback CHAD PENNINGTON, while Indianapolis Cots running back EDGERRIN JAMES and Chicago Bears running back THOMAS JONES were the other finalists for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week. Fans voted for more than their favorite players. The weekly FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards are also a win for the local community. Along with the player awards, FedEx is awarding Children's Hospital of New Orleans and Children's Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital in each winning market, a check for $5,000. The children’s hospitals in the two season-long winner’s markets, announced at this year’s Super Bowl, will be awarded $25,000 each. That means that FedEx will deliver nearly $250,000 to local children’s hospitals around the country in recognition of the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Award winners. Williams’ touchdown reception is now eligible to be selected as the “LEVITRAâ PLAY OF THE YEAR,” awarded this February at Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Florida.
