NFL PRESS BOX NOTES – DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF WEEKEND

BACK TO THE FUTURE: When the Pittsburgh Steelers host the New York Jets in an AFC Divisional Playoff game this Saturday, it will mark the seventh time since 1970 that former teammates-turned-head coaches have opposed each other in the playoffs.

Head coaches BILL COWHER of the Steelers (linebacker) and HERMAN EDWARDS of the Jets (defensive back) were teammates on the 1983-84 Philadelphia Eagles under head coach MARION CAMPBELL (New York Giants head coach TOM COUGHLIN was the wide receivers coach on that team). Former teammates who have faced each other as head coaches in the playoffs (since 1970):

Bulger threw for 313 yards in the Rams’ Wild Card victory last week over Seattle, and for 332 yards in St. Louis’ 2003 Divisional Playoff game against Carolina.
