NFL PRESS BOX NOTES – WEEK 6

MOVING ON UP:  The New England Patriots, winners of an NFL record 19 consecutive games in the regular season and playoffs, have won 16 consecutive regular season contests.  With a win against Seattle on Sunday, the Patriots would tie the 1933-34 Chicago Bears (17) for the most consecutive regular season wins in NFL history.

GOOD ‘N’ PLENTYIt can be said with certainty about today’s NFL that good teams abound.

Three unbeaten teams take to the field in Week 6 – the 4-0 New England Patriots, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles – tying for the second-most undefeated teams through five weeks of a season since 1990, trailing only the four undefeated clubs at this point last season.

In addition, there are 11 teams with one or fewer losses through five weeks, also tying for the second most since 1990, behind the 12 such teams of 1996.

A look at the seasons since 1990 with the most undefeated and one-or-fewer loss teams through five weeks:

MAGNIFICENT MOSSMinnesota wide receiver RANDY MOSS can enter select company on Sunday when the Vikings play in New Orleans.

Moss has a touchdown reception in nine consecutive games and can become only the fifth player in NFL history with a TD catch in 10 games in a row.  He leads the NFL with seven TD receptions.  In his last nine games, Moss has 14 touchdowns.

In four career games against the Saints, including playoffs, Moss has five touchdowns.

FANTASTIC FAVRE: Green Bay’s BRETT FAVRE can continue to secure his place among the NFL’s premiere quarterbacks when the Packers visit the Detroit Lions this week.

Favre has thrown a touchdown pass in 30 consecutive games.  With one against Detroit, he can move past DAN MARINO (30) for the second-longest such streak in NFL history.

The top spot is held by Pro Football Hall of Famer JOHNNY UNITAS, who threw a touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games from 1956-60.  If Favre’s streak continues, he will have the opportunity to tie Unitas in the Packers’ sixth game of the 2005 season.

WORTH THE WAIT:  Two of the key offensive players in Sunday’s meeting between the Patriots and Seahawks – New England quarterback TOM BRADY and Seattle wide receiver DARRELL JACKSON – had to wait a while to hear their names called on April 15, 2000 at the NFL Draft.

Brady was chosen in the sixth round with overall pick No. 199 after a standout career at Michigan, and has already earned a pair of Super Bowl Most Valuable Player awards.

Jackson, who played collegiately at Florida, was chosen by Seattle in the third round (No. 80) – the 15th wide receiver picked.  He has posted at least 50 receptions in each of his first four seasons, topping 1,000 yards twice.
