BRONCOS TOP CHIEFS SUNDAY NIGHT 34-24

Broncos RB QUENTIN GRIFFIN rushed for 156 yards Sunday night in leading Denver to a 34-24 home victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

That total topped the team’s opening-day rushing record of the man Griffin will replace this year, RB CLINTON PORTIS (120 yards), who was traded to Washington this offseason.

The 5-foot-8 scatback had touchdown runs of 25 and 47 yards and caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from QB JAKE PLUMMER.  The Broncos scored on their first three possessions and totaled 413 yards for the game.

Chiefs RB PRIEST HOLMES picked up where he left off last year, scoring three touchdowns and running for 151 yards, opening the game’s scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run.  The Broncos would answer with the contest’s next 17 points on two Griffin scores and K JASON ELAM 43-yard field goal, taking a 17-7 lead into halftime.

The Chiefs came back to tie the game in the third quarter, scoring 17 points, including 10 off two interceptions of Plummer.

Plummer and the Broncos closed out the game’s scoring with 45-yard Jason Elam field goal and a 2-yard pass from Plummer to TE PATRICK HAPE
